PCIC - Past and Present

The PCIC technology division has grown from humble beginnings – from a small home office in our co-founder's house to a fully functional technology, media and data management initiative, spanning both our Dallas and Houston offices.

We are excited to announce that in July, our two offices will be coming together in a much-anticipated move that will foster more natural, internal collaboration.

A few of our team members chose to reflect on how PCIC has evolved over the years, and what the move means to them.

When I began working with PCIC we were a handful of team members from very different backgrounds. Our common goal was to bring together different fields of expertise to improve the healthcare system. We had a few desks in a small, cramped area. Our methods and ideas were very raw back then. However, we have come a long way in honing our tools and methodologies to greatly impact our clients.

I initially came to PCIC as a firefighter, managing a care coordination team of first responders. Although our model has shifted over the years and firefighters are no longer part of our care coordination services, PCIC has invested in my development by allowing me to take courses and build out my professional skills in technology and cloud computing systems. As my skills in this domain have expanded, so have my responsibilities with the organization. This move is an opportunity for me to work more closely with other members of the technology team so we may continue to build a tightly integrated, secure network of data systems.

For me, the move is also a clear milestone of our progress, and a testament to the hard work and determination put forth by this team. We’ll have a large and collaborative environment that will create a space for our Care Coordination and Technology Development teams to synergize their efforts. A lot of thought went into the open design of the new space, which has an amazing amount of lighting. I believe it will generate vitality and create a stronger medium for creativity.

I started at PCIC as a volunteer, in 2016. I was welcomed with open arms by all teammates. The feeling I had on my first day, of working as one towards a cause, still holds true after two years with PCIC.

During my tenure here, I have seen PCIC grow exponentially. We sure have seen some challenges along the way, and we all have worked together to overcome them. This made us build stronger relationships within the team and helped us see our colleagues as family members, especially for me, since I’m thousands of miles away from my family.

The founders of the organization are my role models and great mentors. They always put the team’s comfort and needs before their own and go the extra mile to ensure the team’s happiness.

I’m optimistic and excited to expand our office and continue to contribute to our organization’s success in every possible way.

I still remember the days when the two sole members of PCIC’s technology team were working out of our co-founder Kallol’s 100 square foot home office. I started going to that “office” part-time, and as PCIC grew I came on full-time. Our expansion continued as we moved into a traditional office space and brought on two new software developers in 2016.

Looking back at the three years (time flies!) I see things that while our surroundings have changed, our strong team culture holds us together. Our culture of valuing each member’s idea and freedom to challenge each other has never changed as our team grows. We bond as a team through team building activities such as taking afternoon walks together, volunteering, attending trainings, weekly team lunches, parties and carpooling to meetings in Houston

Additionally, the spirit of “whatever it takes to get it done” has grown so deeply into each one of us that everyone goes the extra mile to balance their busy schedules.

Moving to Houston will help us grow as a team by getting to work more closely with Care Coordination team members and understand how they approach problems.

I joined PCIC mid- 2016. From learning a new language of coding, bouncing ideas off my team mates during product development cycles, and regular banter over lunch, it continues to be an exciting journey. Ongoing conversations with the Care Coordination team and the field outings in Houston help me gather ideas to improve our products. They also give me an insight into the problems we are pushing to solve. Moving into the Houston office will tightly integrate our diverse teams and bring more success to PCIC.

Kathryn's Reflection

I came to PCIC in November of 2017 as a volunteer, and was hired as a full-time Communications Specialist in January of this year. I’ve gotten to know PCIC out of the Houston office, so I communicate with the other half of the technology team via phone, video conferencing, and a host of other services. While we’ve figured out ways to make this work surprisingly well, there is no substitute for face-to-face contact with team mates. I’m excited to build some more comradery with the “Dallas” team as our offices merge – I believe the move will be great for effective collaboration and strong team building
